We are a non-profit family-oriented club dedicated to teaching the techniques and principles established by Sensei Masaru Shintani, 10th Dan, and founder of the Shintani Wado-Kai Karate Federation.
All of our instructors are volunteers and teach because they love the art. We offer classes to all ages and skill level. Whether you are a child or an adult there is something for you. Children and youth in particular benefit from having fun in a structured environment that teaches discipline and respect and improves their physical fitness.
We are a chartered club of the Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation and member of the Northwest Territories Karate Association.
Shintani Wado Kai Karate
The Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation (SWKKF) was founded by Sensei Masaru Shintani in 1966. The SWKKF is one of the largest martial arts organization of a single style in North America. Current registered membership is approximately 2500 students with 400+ active black belts.
The greatest densities of members are in southern Ontario and Alberta, with continued growth in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Québec, Northwest Territories, British Columbia and the USA. The SWKKF also supports a national team to represent the organization at various tournaments both within and outside the organization.
The Senate is the governing body for the Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation. Prior to the death of Sensei Shintani the organization was primarily directed by Sensei Shintani himself with the assistance of the senate. The senate consists of senior ranking members appointed by Sensei Shintani. The Senate held the inaugural meeting on November 1, 1997 in Toronto at that time Sensei Shintani signed the new constitution and named Sensei Denis Labbé his successor. Sensei Denis Labbé now heads the Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation assisted by the Senate members.
